The old venues

Post by Aj666 »

Hello friends! When I first started going to shows showplace and cruise inn were the real venues and the diy spots were 99 Custer and hey dude. I went to one or two at the funhouse and at the continental. I know when I started going to the icon in the early 2000s it was reopened. What was around before that? What were the venues? Where were the basement shows?

other venues i can think of, off the top of my head (besides the ones you mentioned):

Regular shows:

The Scrapyard
River Rock
Skyroom
Randall Studios
Mister Goodbar (i saw Rancid/The Queers and The Weakerthans upstairs there)
Ogdon Street Concert Hall/Impaxx
Sinbad's/Blind Melons/The Strip (or something) (Cheektowaga)
The Icon (the first time around)
Kendzies (Lockport)
The Irish Center (i don't remember it's real name, but it was in South Buffalo)
Niagara Motel (Lockport)
Discovery Records
Club Infinity (Williamsville or maybe Clarence)
Mercury Theater
Basement Bar
Atomic
That one place by the Ford plant with all the mirrors behind the stage
Backstage Pub
Broadway Joe's
Tralf
Classic Rocks
That one Place in NT that Madd Dogg booked out of, Sikora Post?

At least one show that i can remember:

UB Black Box Theater
Network (i saw Snapcase open for i think the Goo Goo Dolls)
Connecticut Street Armory
Asbury Alley (i think this was what it was called, i saw The Pist there)
that one fire hall, on Main, in Williamsville
That VFW in the City of Tonawanda
Polish Falcons in Depew (saw Lockjaw and Daybreak play there)

DIY/Basements:

Winspear
Tyler
Sit and Spin
Sugar City
The Firm
Amvets
that one building on Main, downtown, where Discount played that one time. i think some skaters lived there and maybe it had some ramps?

ETA: i missed where you said before your time, and a couple of mine were more recent
ETA2 and 3: i'm remembering more

We used to book shows at DJ Spinners when we were in high school for our crappy alternative bands.

Wasn’t there a house on Lisbon that did shows as well?
